Please join us at Student Council this Thursday October 17th at 7am in Room 323. We will debrief homecoming, express our thanks and then talk about elections and our vision for the rest of the year. Everyone is welcome! Make your voice heard!

 

ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS, Midland Dow week is right around the corner which means we are going to need all the help we can get with hallway decorating!! The time and day to participate in hallway decorating is this Sunday, October 20th at 11am- 5pm. If you have any questions please contact Michelle Charles or Ellie Ingalla! Hope to see you there!

 

Dow Midland week is right around the corner so that means super fan is back! Remind your third hours to start getting ready for auditions on Thursday, October 24th. Audition sign-ups close on Friday, October 18th. Teachers, please fill out the google form that was sent to your email if you're interested. If you want more information or have questions please contact Hailey Tanis or Stephanie Martinez.


 

For any Junior and Senior IB diploma candidates and anybody considering taking any IB test, Dow High’s IB Mentor Center will be  meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, October 15th in the media center after 7th hour. Here will we be talking about the benefits of mentorships and answer any questions that you may have. Hope to see you there tomorrow.


 

Charger Equality Club! 

"Are you interested in fostering a home of acceptance and respect at Dow High? If so, then you should stop by Charger Equality Club (previously known as GSA)'s  next meeting on Thursday, October 17th after 7th hour in Mr. Chambers' room, room 217. This week we will be focusing on how to address and diffuse hateful encounters. Hope to see you there!

 

IB/AP Testing

 

Students interested in taking AP/IB Test in the spring of 2020, Information and registration sheets will be available in the Counseling Office and are due back in the main office by Friday, October 18.  You must have this form filled out and returned in order to take an AP/IB Test in the spring.

 

SADD SAVE  Come to the SADD SAVE Club this meeting Tuesday October 15th at 2:30 in room 115.  Students Against Destructive Decisions and Students Against Violence Everywhere is a club whose mission is to enlighten our school regarding the ill effects of bad decisions, drugs to bullying, and find innovative ways to help and curb such behaviors.  Anyone and everyone is welcome to join this club and we will have food at Tuesday's meeting SADD SAVE SADD SAVE!!!!!!!!!


 

Prezza prezza prezza!

 

Attention Chargers, prezza is here once again! Pre-ordered pizza will be available for purchase until Tuesday October 22th, and will be delivered on Thursday, October 24th to your third hour teacher. Remember that you must order AND pay before Tuesday October 22th, and your order is only guaranteed once you pay. Pizza is available in either pepperoni or cheese, and it is $10 per pizza. There are unlimited pizzas available, so be sure to contact Emily Danielsen or Kristin Sekely to secure your order!

 

Hey Chargers!

GO GREEN will be meeting TODAY at 2:30 and 3:30 in room 220. We will be making reusable t-shirt bags to give away at the Farmers Market this Saturday. Please join us in helping to rid the world of the four TRILLION single-use plastic bags being used annually around the world!

 

Bring a friend! New faces and ideas are always welcome! See you today after school!

 

 

Doughnuts, Doughnuts, Doughnuts! Attention 3rd hour classes, do you want a chance to win doughnuts for your class? Starting today through November 1st, DECA will be collecting gently used shoes. For every 10 pair of shoes your class donates you'll be entered for a chance to win doughnuts!

Shoes can be any size, any style - so get cleaning out those closets!

 

RENFAIR:

 

Attention talented performers at Dow High School! RenFair this year will take place on Friday, January 24. Yes that is a Friday, but don’t worry…you don’t have school that day. Audition sign-ups will become available in about 2 weeks, so consider this your notice to start working on your acts. We know there are some great singers, dancers, poets, and more out there, so keep listening to announcements to hear when the sign-up will become available. In the meantime, talk to any music teacher if you have any questions.

 

Calling all bands and singers! Battle of the bands will take place on Friday, December 6th from 7-8:30 pm which means that auditions are opening up now. If you'd like to audition please email in a video of you or your band performing a song to Olivia Kaminski. Make sure to also include the lyrics of a song and the names of everyone in the band. Please note that this year we are taking bands and solo singers. Auditions close on November 1st so make sure to get on top of it! IB CAS COMMUNITY 

Project Epeolatry, an IB CAS community service project, will be collecting gently used picture books in front of the main office, in order to help combat the reading disparity present among young children. Please consider donating to help this project - any help is much appreciated!

 

The cold weather is upon us chargers! If you are excited to see the snow start falling, you should join Alpine Club! Alpine Club is for both experienced skiers and snowboarders and for people who want to try for the first time. If this sounds like something you are interested in, come to our information session this Thursday after both 6th and 7th hours in room 129B with Mr Colvin.

 

 

The next Club Med meeting will be Wednesday, October 16th in room 129A at 2:30. Join us as we make locker signs!"



 

SPORTS

Wrestlers

Please sign up  in the office, or in either of Mr Peterson's, Mr Murray's or Mr. Gehoski's rooms.  Official practices start November 18th. There will be pre season works starting on Monday November 4th.

 

The boy's tennis team won their 11th consecutive regional this weekend winning 23 out of 24 points as they head toward the State final.  Winning their flight for Dow was Anish Middha, Colson Wells, Saketh Kamaraju, Aiden Tanis, Sentthur Vijayim, Gavin Killmaster, Caleb Qiu, Marshall McGaugh, Zaky El-Nachef, and Thomas Ladwein.  Enrico Setiawan and Alex Kuo were flight runner ups. Special thank you to Michael McGaugh, Alex Griffen, and David Wang for running court maintenance throughout the day and Vicki Lieti for running the scores table.

 

Congratulations to the Boys Cross Country Team on a second place finish at the Freeland Invitational on Saturday.  They were lead by Josiah Burr in 5th, Joshua Burr in 12th, and Andrew Selle in 22nd.  Also scoring for Dow were Peter Kozerski and River Penn.

 

The Girls team took 4th place with all 7 varsity runners with personal bests or season best times.  Megan Churm was 9th, Isabella Rhee 10th, Mallory Matthews 22nd, Tristan Luick 26th, and Norah Allington 28th.

 

Both the Boys and Girls JV teams finished 4th.  The Boys were lead by Jacob Rettelle in 7th, Eliezer Maldonando 10th, and Jacob Hansen 14th.  Also scoring were Trent Bergman and Aidan Murphy. Scoring for the Girls were Grace Shephard in 7th, Brea Lincoln in 14th followed by Joey Meilink, Gena Guerrieri, and Lena Burton.

 

A group of Dow High Swimmers competed at Calvin College on Saturday at an Invitational Meet called the MISCA Meet. Mackenzie Thackery, Sasha Konovalenko, Anna Jensen, Claire Newman, Ella Roberson, Audrey Xu, Chloe Stafford and Lauren Burgard.  They swam again some of the best division 1 swimmers in the State and did well. The 400 free relay team of Jensen, Konovalenko, Roberson and Newman won as did Claire in the 50 and 100 free. Claire broke the 50 and 100 record for the MISCA Meet and broke the Dow High Record and the Calvin College Pool Record.  It was a great day for the ladies.

 

 

Varsity Volleyball won the Lake City Invitational over the weekend.  The team went 5-0 and never dropped a set all day.

 

Some key contributors on the day were:

Laura Hershauer with 92 assists, 7 aces and 13 digs.

Jenna Somers with 36 digs, and 4 assists.

Hailey Tanis with 40 kills, 13 aces and 8 blocks.

Haley Jaster with 27 kills, 5 aces and 5 blocks.

Alyssa Keptner with 15 kills and 10 blocks!

 

Also congratulations to Kourtney Fischer, Grace Militello and Elizabeth Avery on making their varsity debut this past weekend.  They combined for 15 digs and 2 aces on the day.

 

Our next match is Tuesday home vs Arthur Hill.
