Happy Popcorn Friday Chargers!!  Come get a bag of popcorn at the concession stand today for only $1.00.  In honor of homecoming, if there is a green X on your bag, you get a FREE bag of popcorn today!  See you at lunch!

 

Students interested in taking AP Test in the spring of 2020, College Board has changed the process.  Information and registration sheets will be available beginning Monday, October 7 in the Counseling Office and are due back in the main office by Friday, October 18.  You must have this form filled out and returned in order to take an AP Test in the spring.

 

If you would like to help decorate for homecoming, please meet in the cafeteria after 6th hour today. Everyone is welcome! It will be a lot of fun! See you there!

 

Project 111

 

It’s homecoming week, which means many of you will be carpooling and driving with each other this weekend. Riding with friends can be one of the most dangerous ways to drive, so: Remember to #BeABetterRider! Don’t be a distraction to the driver, be an extra set of eyes, and most importantly, be safe! 

 

Have you ever had an interest in investing?

 Investment Club is the club for you. We will learn how to develop a portfolio and more about investing, even if you don’t have any prior knowledge. We provide real-world experience with investing and help develop skills with money. The informational meeting is Tuesday on October 8th after 6th hour in Mrs. Royalty’s classroom, room 356.

Would you like to develop your ability to think creatively? Come to Math Club in Room 140 after 7th hour on Fridays (from 3:30-4:30). We will focus on the upcoming MMPC and the tips and tricks to do better. Snacks will be provided.


 

Student Leadership is now selling class shirts for $15! We are selling them at both lunches, from today through Wednesday, October 9th. These shirts are for all four years of high school! Pre-order your shirt to show off your charger spirit!

 

SPORTS

 

The boys varsity tennis team won its 14th consecutive SVL championship yesterday, winning six of the eight possible flights, and runner up in one flight.  Winning individual flight championships for Dow were Anish Middha, Colson Wells, Saketh Kamaraju, Caleb Qiu, Marshall McGaugh, Zaky El Nachef, Thomas Ladwien, Enrico Setiawan, and Alex Kuo.  Runner ups in their flight were Sentthur Vijayim and Gavin Killmaster. Great tournament boys.

 

JV volleyball defeated john glenn last night in straight sets.  a balanced attack was led by Jessica, son of Eric, with 6 kills.  Abbey Rey majestically decreed 5 kills. Samone Burroughs burrowed into the defense with 5 kills. Summer Luick used her sunny disposition to smash 4 kills and 4 aces.  The defense was led by Halle 'Reid my lips' with 6 digs. Makena Saylor navigated 8 assists. Alex Price was priceless as she delivered 5. The girls are 9-1 over the last ten matches and play Bay City Central next Tuesday.

 

Freshman:

Freshman volleyball beat John Glenn in the first two games 25-18 & 25-15.  They won the match with their serves with Madelynn Parks serving 12 points with 3 aces, Duri Barodawalla served 10 points with 2 aces and Luciana Fabiano added 3 aces.

 

Varsity:

Varsity won in straight sets 25-14, 25-13, 25-14 against John Glenn last night.  Some key contributors from last night were:

Alyssa Keptner with 5 kills and 5 blocks

Gabrielle Wilson with 3 kills and 2 aces

Laura Hershauer with 31 assists and 3 aces.

 

Thank you to everyone that came out to honor parent night and huge shout out to the dow high student section for always showing up!

 

Next game is away at Bay City Central next Tuesday.









 

Good luck to Rese Elza, Nick Soto and Sam Willertz as they travel to Denver to compete in the 2020 U.S. Youth Olympic Trials for curling.  When they win the competition, they will then travel to Lausanne, Switzerland to compete in the Youth Olympic Games!  

 

Tonight's homecoming game is sponsored by the Saginaw Spirit! Any Dow student who attends the game tonight and scans the QR code at the entrances will be entered to win a Saginaw Spirit prize package. The package includes four Spirit tickets and Spirit merch! Remember, the only way to enter is to scan the QR code. So come out and support our Chargers for a chance to win!


 

We have the winners from last night's Volleyball game raffle! The winners of the $4 Meal Deal courtesy of Pizza Dude are... Cole Kinney, Taylor Neuman, Michael Kahl, and James Toole. Please come down to the office after announcements to receive your prize!


 

 JV Football beat Holt 12-7 last night.  Jack Bakus threw for 2 touchdowns, one to Tucker Pomranke and the other to Evan Chronowski.  The defense played outstanding with Brandon Scott making an excellent stop on a 4th down to seal the game.  Other valuable contributors on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball were Caden Chritz and Aiden Wardell. Next game is Thursday the 10th, home against Bay City Western Let's Go chargers!


 

Congratulations to the Dow High Swim and Dive Team at Thursdays’ Tri-meet against Bay City Western and Lapeer.  Dow won both meets with 152 points vs Lapeer’s 30 and Dow 118 points vs Bay City Western’s 67.   Congratulations on first place finishes to Katherine Gray in the 500 free, Sasha Konovalenko in the 200 IM & 100 Breast, Ella Roberson in the 200 Free and Naomi Coyer in the 100 Back.  The team is at home next Thursday for a Tri-Meet against John Glenn and Flint Powers. Nice Job Ladies! Come on out to support the girls and to see some great races and dives!
