GO GREEN  will be meeting TODAY for just a few minutes in room 220 at both 2:30 and 3:30...... if you can stay after the meetings to work on the Homecoming banner and/or to make t-shirt bags, that would be greatly appreciated!!! 

We have plenty to do and, of course, there will be snacks!!

 

Bring a friend! New faces and ideas are always welcome!!

 

 

DHS Debate

 

Congratulations to the DHS debate team that competed this weekend at West Bloomfield.   The team of Tayce Schamamian and Faith Tabler won the Open division and Faith placed 3rd overall speaker.

Tickets go on sale today during BOTH lunches, for $8.

 

This announcement is for the National Art Honor Society: remember that the induction ceremony and cookout is today from 3:30-5PM in 358. If you plan to run for executive office, remember to see Mr. Gledhill by the end of lunch today. 

 

League of Women Voters essay contest

 

The League of Women Voters of the Midland Area is sponsoring an essay contest for seniors to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote, and the founding of the League of Women Voters, which is a non-partisan organization that encourages the informed and active participation in government. The first prize is $300 and the second prize is $200. If you are interested, the format sheets are available in the main office with a due date of November 27th.

Oct. 3 -Thursday: Road Trip (Freshman = Dallas, Sophomore = Orlando, Juniors = New York City, Seniors = Honolulu)

SPORTS

 

On Saturday, Dow High Swimming and Diving won the Tri-Cities Swimming and Diving Championships held at SVSU for the 9th year in a row.  It was a strong team win as Dow placed many swimmers and divers in the top 8. Winning events were Ella Roberson in the 200 Free, Claire Newman in the 50 Free and 100 Butterfly and the 200 Free Relay team of Anna Jensen, Ella Roberson, Claire Newman and Sasha Konovalenko.  Claire’s times were Tri City Meet records. It’s a busy week for the Ladies as they travel to St Johns tonight and Western on Thursday. Go Chargers! Also, Mackenzie Thackery qualified for States in the 500 freestyle. Congrats Mac!!!


 

ATTENTION JUNIOR AND SENIOR GIRLS!! 

There are still spots available for the Homecoming PowderPuff game! If you or anyone you know is interested check your emails for signup link. The game will take place WEDNESDAY October 2nd at 7:30pm. At the Midland Community Stadium. There will be food and drinks provided for the players and coaches! If you have any questions or concerns contact Michelle Charles or Sydney Johnson.

Last Thursday the Freshmen football team lost to Heritage by the score of 30 - 40.  Jack Bakus passed for two touchdowns and ran for one.  Those touchdowns were to Landen Miller and Ben Root. Miller also ran for a touchdown.  Defensively the team was lead by Cole Bailey. Jake Finney and Sebastian Beckord both recovered fubles.  The team is on a bye week this week and will play Bay City Western for their next game. 


 

Dow's JV football remains undefeated and moved to 14-0-2, with a hard-fought 0-0 tie at Grand Haven.  Hayden Baus had 5 saves in goal, and Justin Schafer, Ian Metzler, Adam Pfeiffer, Danny Safadi, and Cole Kinney led the defense to earn the team's 14th shutout.   

 

Next up Dow will travel to Grand Blanc on Wednesday to take on the SVL South Champions in a crossover game that will decide the SVL champion.  



 

The Girls Cross Country team placed 7th at the Coaching Legend Classic in Brighton on Saturday.  They were lead by a 14th place finish by Megan Churm with Isabelle Rhee, Mallory Matthews, Monica Thill, and Norah Allington also scoring.  The Girls JV team came in 3rd place with Brea Lincoln in 3rd and Grace Shepard in 8th. Mackenzie Stoffel, Lena Burton, and Maitea Cox rounded out the scoring.

 

The Boys team came in 10th place with Josiah Burr in 6th overall followed by Andrew Selle, Peter Kozerski, Ben Scott, and Joshua Burr.  The Boys JV team was 6th with Nate Rhee, Jack Sigler, Trent Bergman, Ethan Meehle, and Nathan Burgard scoring.

 

Volleyball

 

"Tonights varsity volleyball game is sponsored by Pizza Dude and the Charger Shoppe! Any student who scans the QR code at the door will be entered into a raffle to win either a $4 Meal Deal courtesy of Pizza Dude, or free cookies from the Charger Shoppe. So come show your support for a chance to win! Winners will be announced tomorrow.
