IB CAS COMMUNITY 

 

Project Epeolatry, an IB CAS community service project, will be collecting gently used picture books starting September 23rd in front of the main office, in order to help combat the reading disparity present among young children. Please consider donating to help this project - any help is much appreciated!

 

Turning Green at Live Oak

 

Did you know half of all marine life has been lost in the last 40 years and by the year 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish?The IB CAS project, Turning Green, will be screening the film, Blue, regarding these issues, this Sunday night at Live Oak Coffeehouse at 6pm. Turning Green welcomes you to come for the coffee, but stay for the sea this Sunday night at Live Oak!

 

Charger Pictures 

 

All of the photo packets from picture day should have been handed out to you. If you did not get one, please see your English teacher. If it is still missing, please see Mrs. Hall in room 218. Picture retakes will be on Tuesday, October 22 in the OA Lounge which is located across the hall from the Charger Shoppe. Bring your picture packet with you on that day as well as your student ID.  Seniors - if you would like your proof sheet, please see Mrs. Hall in room 218. 

 

 

 

Math Club

 

Would you like to develop your ability to think creatively? Come to Math Club in Room 140 after 7th hour on Fridays (from 3:30-4:30). We will focus on the upcoming MMPC and the tips and tricks to do better. Snacks will be provided.  



 

Hoco Tickets

 

Ticket sales will be starting on October 1st with tickets being available during BOTH lunches, for $8. But get your ticket when we start selling them at school, because it’ll be $10 at the door!

SPORTS

 

ATTENTION JUNIOR AND SENIOR GIRLS!! 

There are still spots available for the Homecoming PowderPuff game! If you or anyone you know is interested check your emails for signup link. If you are already signed up check your emails for information! The game will take place WEDNESDAY October 2nd at 7:30pm. At the Midland Community Stadium. There will be food and drinks provided for the players and coaches! If you have any questions or concerns contact Michelle Charles or Sydney Johnson.

This week, three Dow High Students will be participating in the Youth Olympic Trials for curling in Denver, CO.  The winner of the event will represent the USA in the 2020 Youth Olympics in Switzerland in January. Good luck to Nick Soto, Rese Elza, and Sam Willertz

 

Dow High JV football squad beat Saginaw heritage 40-20 in JV football action last night at Midland community Stadium Aiden wordell score two touchdowns Evan chronowski scored a touchdown Cameron Heiser Mitchell scotchlas and Tucker pomranky all scored on touchdown runs Nick Fang Caden Chritz Adain Wordell and Mitchell Schoclas all played outstanding on the defense side next Thursday away game against Holt way to go Chargers



 

Freshman:

Freshman volleyball beat Heritage in 2 games 25-17 & 25-15.  Sydney Bond lead the team with 16 assists and 9 digs. Libby Avery lead the team with 17 digs!

JV volleyball lost a tough match against heritage last night.  leading the chargers were Abbey Rey with 11 kills.  Jessica Erickson added 7 kills of her own. Makena Saylor had 13 assists and Alex Price had 12 in the effort.  Grace Militello logged 15 digs and Halle Reid tallied 14 in the defensive effort.

Varsity:

Varsity volleyball won in straight sets 25-21, 25-23, 25-10 against Heritage.  Thanks to the fans that came to the game last night, you guys made the difference.

 

Next game is home against Saginaw next Tuesday.

Tennis

The boys varsity tennis team beat cross town rival Midland for the 13th consecutive time yesterday.  Winning for Dow were Anish Middha, Colson Wells, Saketh Kamaraju, Aiden Tanis, Caleb Qiu, Marshall McGaugh, Thomas Ladwien, Zaky El-Nachef, Enrico Setiawan, and Alex Kuo.  This brings Dows record on the year to 17-3-2.

 

 

 

Swim

 

The Dow Ladies swam the Preliminaries of the Tri City Swimming Championships at SVSU last evening.  Many swimmers had new best swims and amazing dives. Highlights included State Qualifying swims by Anna Jensen in the Backstroke and Chloe Stafford in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke and Claire Newman in the Butterfly. Claire also broke the Tri City record in the 50 Freestyle.  The top 24 swimmers in each event come back Saturday at SVSU for the Tri City Finals. The Meet starts at noon. Come cheer for the Dow Swimmers, Go Chargers!!!

And also Mackenzie Thackery qualified for States in the 500 freestyle. Congrats Mac!!!
