Student Leadership


Congratulations to Sasha Konovalenko on finishing 7th in the World Youth Rapid Chess Championship and 2nd in the World Blitz Chess Championship!!  Over 200 players from 25 different countries participated in the competition.

Happy Popcorn Friday, Chargers!!  You heard that right-today is the first popcorn Friday of the year!!  Bring your $1.00 to the concession stand at lunch and get a delicious bag of popcorn!!  ***Staff-You have worked hard these past 3 weeks, so enjoy a FREE bag of popcorn today! See you at lunch!


The Charger Marching Band had a great practice wednesday night. Mr. DeRees would like to thank all of the athletes who helped us out by not parking in the band lot after school. We are going to be out there every Wednesday evening through October 23.




For any Junior and Senior IB diploma candidates and anybody considering taking any IB test, Dow High’s IB Mentor Center will be having their first meeting today, September 20th  in the media center after 7th hour. Here will we be talking about what IB has to offer and answer any questions that you may have. Hope to see you there.

Information about the MSU Poetry Contest and MSU Fiction Contest is now available. The deadline for submissions is Friday, October 18. Please see your English teacher for more information and GOOD LUCK!


Hoco Tickets


Times flying by so you know what’s coming around the corner ...HOMECOMING! But what you don’t know is  that it’s October 5th from 7- 10. Ticket sales will be starting on October 1st with tickets being available during BOTH lunches, for $8. But get your ticket when we start selling them at school, because it’ll be $10 at the door!




Next meeting will be Oct. 2.


A H Nickless 


The  A H Nickless Innovation competition is now open for registration.  This competition encourages students to work in teams, think innovatively, and be passionate about STEM subjects and skills.  Winners of this competition will receive a $5000 scholarship and a $20,000 technology grant for the school. Do you like being on stage? Do you like working behind the scenes? If so, then you should be interested in Dow High Drama’s Fall Play— The Tempest by Shakespeare.


Auditions are Thursday, September 26th 4-6:30pm at Central Auditorium’s little theatre.

Chemistry Club


Attention all chemistry enthusiasts! If you want to take part in all things chemistry, be sure you attend one of our informational meetings next Tuesday after school. Meetings will take place after both 6th and 7th hour.  Come see us in room 129B and see what we are all about!






ONE TEAM!!!  This was the montra for the sophomores and freshman football players that joined forces against Bay City John Glenn.  This combined team came away with the victory by the score of 54 - 12. Jack Bakus scored 3 touchdowns and passed for 2.  Other touchdowns were scored by Evan Chronowski, Zach Parker, Tucker Pomranky, Aiden Wardell and Carson Jankens. The defense played outstanding.   Leading the defense were Cole Bailey, Sebastian Beckard, Evan Chronowski, Mitchell Skoczylas, and Wardell. This victory was a total group effort and all players contributed.  The JV & Freshmen teams play Heritage next week.





Freshman beat bay city western in a hard fought match winning 27-25 in game 1, losing 20-25 in game 2 and coming back to win 15-4 in game 3.  Helen Pendleton served 14 points with 4 Aces, Libby Avery had 9 digs, Sydney Bond had 14 assists and Brianne Roberts had 5 kills. 



Varsity won in 4 sets last night. Key contributors on the night were: Adaeze Okoro with 9 kills & 2 blocks, Haley Jaster with 7 kills & 3 blocks and Laura Hershauer with 28 assists & 3 aces.


Thank you again to the Dow High Student Section for showing us your support last night! You guys are amazing


JV Volleyball

JV volleyball chalked up another win last night over Bay City Western.  Alex Price provided 9 assists and Makena Saylor added 8. Abbey Rey notched 6 kills and Samone Burroughs racked up 5.  Grace Militello shut down Western's hitters with 6 digs. Summer 'the wall' Luick punished the Warriors with 4 monster blocks and 4 smokin aces.




All guys interested in playing basketball this upcoming season are encouraged to attend a basketball information meeting on Monday, September 23 at 2:30 in Coach Watkin's classroom. Students with a 7th hour class may attend a meeting at 3:25 in Coach Karapas' room. The meeting will last about 10 minutes. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Dickerson


Girls Golf


The Girls Varsity Golf team place 4th at the SVL Jamboree yesterday played at Warwick Hills in Grand Blanc.  Scoring for the Chargers were:
