Toys for Tots

 

Tis the season for Toys for Tots! Calling all 3rd hour classes to gather as many new, unwrapped, toys as you can to make children in Midland County have a very Merry Holiday! The class who collects the most toys will win doughnuts courtesy of Dow High DECA and Midland's newest Bakery - The Sticky Paw.

 

Collection runs through December 14th so pick up a few toys while you're out shopping on Black Friday!

 

Talent Show

 

Can you or someone you know juggle? How about solve a rubix cube? Sing, dance, or act too? If you answered yes to any of those questions than you should audition for the first ever Dow High´s got talent show. Auditions will be held on January 30 through 31st from 2:30-5:00 in the little theater. If you have any questions please contact Rihana Syed and Maya Al-Ahmad.

 

 

SADD SAVE

 

There will be a SADD SAVE meeting this Tuesday, December 4th, after school in room 115.Math club will meet today!

 

Come for snacks and “add” to your competitive math experience! Everyone is welcome regardless of ability.”

 

Deck the Halls

 

Deck the halls with boughs of holly! It’s getting close to the holiday's Chargers and that means it’s almost time for our Deck the Halls competition. Get into the holiday spirit by decorating the doorway of your 3rd-hour class. To enter, 3rd-hour teachers should check for an email from Mrs. Outinen and fill out the included form.

 

Announcements for the MRD: Dow’s Political and Economic Discussion Club

 

This week the MRD has a lot to cover with topics ranging from the Yellow Jacket Strikes across France and Belgium to the G20 meeting in Buenos Aires; Mr. Chambers may also be stopping by so that we may discuss the dangers of the pseudo-left politics and their similarities with Stalinism. Those interested in these topics or have other political, economic or social matters and discussion topics of their own to bring to the table should plan to meet this week from 3:00 to 4:15 after school on Tuesday in the Little Theater. And always remember, anyone with an idea for a discussion topic for the MRD can email Luke Mavis so that it can be considered for the next meeting.

Alpine Club

 

Alpine will meet tomorrow in Mr Colvin's room, room 129B, to plan our first ski trip. Meetings will be after both 6th and after 7th hour. You must attend this meeting or contact Mr Colvin if you wish to attend the first trip. See you all there!






 

Club Med we are having a meeting this Wednesday, December 5th at 3:30 in room 129A.  Hope to see you there.

 

Attention Seniors:

 

The commencement committee is now taking names for any senior interested in being a student commencement speaker for the Class of 2019. There is a sign-up sheet in the main office. You will have until December 21 at 3 pm. to sign up. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. There is a process to get from the sign-up list down to two speakers for the ceremony. If you sign-up, you will hear about this process.  Good luck!



 

 

 

Production Crew

 

Like sports? Interested in announcing?

Become part of a production crew and help to broadcast basketball games by joining Vid Comm. There will be a short informational meeting this Thursday, December 6 in Mrs. Hall’s, room 218 at 3:30. If you can’t make it, contact Jason Laplow or Mrs. Hall.

 

Poetry Club

 

Calling all lovers of verse: The Poetry Club will be meeting EVERY Tuesday in December. That is four opportunities to enjoy the written and spoken word. Our December 4 meeting (this Tuesday) will have a guest presentation by the amazing Mrs. Thompson. She will help us launch the 2019 Poetry Outloud Season! If you are drawn to performance/spoken poetry you won't want to miss the meeting. We hope to see you after sixth and seventh hour in room 346.



 

Sports

 

On Friday night the Charger hockey team lost to East Grand Rapids by a score of 5-4.  Goals were scored by John Wagner, Shane Astrike, Joey Johnson and Lucas Churchfield. Shane Astrike and Alec Newton had 2 assists while Cam Patty, Luke Blasy and Joey Johnson each had 1 assist.

 

On Saturday night the hockey team defeated Grandville; 5-4.  Luke Blasy score 2 goals while Shane Astrike, Cam Patty and Lucas Churchfield scored once.  Shane Astrike had 2 assists while Ryan Stadelmaier, Luke Blasy, Joey Johnson and Cam Patty each had 1 assist.

Mark Fishman was in net for the Chargers.

 

The Chargers' next game is this Wednesday versus cross town rival Midland High.
